If you want a plant that offers flowers, fruit, foliage and fall color, you can't beat blueberries. Don't limit this wonderful shrub to the fruit and berry garden - blueberries make a dazzling addition to a sunny border. Blueberries are easy to care for and utterly reliable. Just keep in mind that they love acid soil.
In early spring the fresh shiny leaves are complimented by white flowers. The flowers are followed by gorgeous, juice, delicious berries. In late fall the shrubs become a burst of brilliant red.
When planting blueberries, grow more than one variety to ensure good pollination. And don't forget to add acidic matter to the soil, such as pine needless and bark mulch.
Most importantly, plant lots. Blueberries freeze well and you'll be able to enjoy fresh berries in the summer and almost-as-good-as-fresh berries all winter long.
