Summer is the time to bring the outdoors in and there is no more luxurious or charming way to do it than with bouquets of cut flowers. Perennials are perfect for cutting - they come in every imaginable color and many are deliciously fragrant as well.
Here are a few tips for beautiful, long-lasting bouquets:
1. Water the flowers the night before harvesting, then cut them in the early morning.
2. Use sharp scissors or secateurs and make clean angled cuts.
3. Place the plants into water immediately.
4. Trim the bottoms of the stems each day and change the water every few days.
Some of our favorite flowers for cutting include:
1. Yarrow: pastel mix or cerise
2. Scented Oriental Lilies or Pixie Lilies.
3. Veronica for a wonderful cloud of blue.
4. Sweet William Dianthus
5. Roses, Viburnums and Hydrangeas
So bring those perennials indoors and enjoy your garden in every room in the house.
