thymus x 'doone valley' |
|
This herb is striking both for ornamental and culinary value. Its glossy, low-carpeting foliage is dark olive green, patched with rich buttery gold, and can be evergreen... the creeping habit makes it ideal for the front of the border, or in and around paving stones or a garden path. As a bonus, fluffy clusters of lilac-pink flowers are borne in summertime, which are so pretty in contrast to the bright-and-dark foliage. When rubbed or stepped on, this perennial herb releases the most pleasing fresh lemon scent, sweet and tangy. In cooking, use sprigs as a garnish, or chop into butter or dressing for fish and poultry.
