This summer try planting a different kind of garden - an alpine garden! You don't need a lot of space. In fact a shallow terra cotta pot is ideal.
When we say "alpine planter" we mean using plants that prefer fairly dry conditions and full sun, not necessarily plants that live in alpine areas.
To create an alpine planter you'll be using plants that are small and don't
need to be watered as much as other plants. Try using plants that have different types of foliage and that bloom at different times. Place the planter in full sun and protect it from winter's heavy rains.
Plants we recommend for alpine planters include: Sedum Spurium "Dragons Blood", Sedum Spurium "Tricolour", Euphorbia Myrsinites (Donkey's Tail), Trifolium Purpurascens (purple leafed clover) and Sempervivum Tectorum (Hens and Chicks)
