Remember that old red wagon you loved so much when you were young?
Well, haul it out of the garage or attic and give it a new lease on life by turning it into a wonderful, moveable planter.
Fill the wagon with soil, add drainage holes to the bottom and stuff it with fall plants like pansies, ornamental cabbages, asters and chrysanthemums. Add a touch of the exotic with foliage plants like phorminum tenax, New Zealand Flax and Euphorbias. Euphorbia Amygdaloides Rubra and creeping jenny will trail down the sides of the wagon for a lush effect. Houttuynia Cordata "Chameleon" is another delightful foliage plant. Lamium Maculatum "Silver Beacon" will add a splendid touch of silver to your planting.
The wagon is a shallow planter so count on keeping your plants in it for one season before moving them to the garden or a deeper container. But you'll have a wonderful display for the fall and winter. And when you want to move them, just pull your wagon to a brand new spot.
