When deciding on what seeds to order for your 2002 garden, keep these in mind, These are some of Sheena's favourite, and all are available right here at urbangreenery.com!
Carrots: Thumbelina.
These unique 1-1 1/2 inch diameter ''bite size'' carrot nuggets have good colour and flavour. They hold longer than all others. Suited to close plantings, container growing, and growing in heavy clay soils. Kids love them.
Peas: Oregon Giant Snow Pea.
This snow pea has unusually large, broad pods growing to 5 inches long. They are thick, very sweet, and tender, and remain so longer than others. Very resistant to pea enation, mosaic, and powdery mildew.
Spinach: Mazurka.
Large, round, smooth, dark green leaves are thick, mild and slightly sweet, providing excellent flavour in salads or cooked. Up to 6 inches tall before setting flowers, Mazurka will not bolt before producing a good crop of leaves, even in hot summer weather. A good spinach for summer harvests.
Swiss chard: Bright lights.
With stems of red, yellow, rose, gold, and white, Bright Lights is a visual feast in your ornamental beds as well as in your vegetable garden and at your dinner table. It has lightly savoyed leaves of burgundy and green, grows up to 20 inches tall, and is mild flavored. What a colourful accent for any meal! Sheena love's this, it grows all year round!
Beans: Blue Lagoon.
A bean-lover's bean. Blue Lagoon's exceptionally tender dark-green cylindrical pods are filled with clear sweet bean flavour. These 5-6 inch long, thick and fleshy pods are set on 18-24 inch erect-growing plants. Exceptional when freshly harvested, sliced, and sautéed with bits of bacon and red garlic. Great for canning and freezing, too. White seeded.
Dare to try something new?
Kohlrabi: Kolibri.
Purple-skinned with a white interior, Kolibri is flattish-round, between 4-6 inches, with medium-sized tops that allow for closer planting. One of the best varieties for late season harvest. When most of the other kohlrabis have become woody and strong, Kolibri remains juicy, sweet and crunchy. Eaten raw, this makes a superb snack and a colourful addition to salads.
